ARLINGTON HEIGHTS —State Senator Mark Walker announced over $9 million in grants from the Illinois Department of Transportation will fund four projects aimed at easing travel across the 27th District.
“These projects are vital to building safer, more accessible methods of travel for the 27th District community,” said Walker (D-Arlington Heights). “I am proud that these developments are coming to the community and will continue to advocate for more efforts to ease transportation in the district.”
Two of the grants will go toward shared-use paths in the Village of Mount Prospect, including $3 million for the construction of sidewalks, bike paths and improved lighting along Rand Road. An additional $1.4 million will go toward lighting and crosswalk improvements along Busse Road, between Central Road and Golf Road (Illinois Route 58).
In Prospect Heights, Camp McDonald Road is set to receive over $1.5 million for the construction of over 5,000 feet of new, improved sidewalk. The renovations will be between South Wheeling Road and North Wolf Road.
To improve pedestrian and cyclist accessibility, nearly $3 million will be attributed to the Vail Avenue Promenade in downtown Arlington Heights. The project also includes the installation of sustainable streetscape.
The grant is part of IDOT’s commitment to improving non-motorized transportation options and supporting local infrastructure development across Illinois.
